I believe that one can really tell when the writer's guild strike is affecting what is coming to Australian television. It's about when all these strange one-hit-wonder-plot shows begin to lift their ugly heads into prime-time television spots. Oh wait, that's just Summer shows! ... No wait, these seem to be worse than previous years. Couple of examples strike me rather strongly.
Moonlight. A show about a Vampire who reveals his very Undead nature to the potential Significant Other within THE FIRST EPISODE. ... Strikes me as somewhat premature. Even Buffy the Vampire Slayer held back Angel's vampire nature for at least a few episodes. If Joss Whedon is capable of holidng such a thinly-disguised secret for a few measly episodes surely the writers/creators of this show would be capable of doing the same! Suffice to say this is the type of show which in the normal state of television, would be relegated to the dark, secluded corners of late-night television.
The sheer amount of reality television bombarding all four corners of my television screen are beginning to overwhelm & depress me. I believe this perspective is entirely relevant and I would donate time, money and body parts to seeing it come to fruition.
That said, the next few days on my schedule don't involve me watching much television so I should be safe from spouting out vast amounts of profanity and expletives at the world in general.
